What is the NDIS?
NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme which can deliver a better quality of life, more time spent with family and friends, increased independence, access to new skills, employment opportunities, or volunteer work in their community are all made possible by the NDIS, which offers financial support to qualified persons with disabilities.
In addition, the NDIS links people with disabilities to services in their local area.
This includes putting you in touch with doctors, local organisations, sports teams, support groups, libraries, and schools, as well as giving you information on the types of assistance that are offered by the governments of each state and territory.
Over 500,000 disabled Australians now have access to the services and assistance they require thanks to the NDIS.
Am I Eligible?
You must first satisfy the age and residency requirements in order to be eligible for the NDIS. As a result, you must be under 65 when you apply, reside in Australia, and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
In addition, you must have a permanent and /or significant disability that affects your day to day activities and requires assistance from others to do tasks.
Visit the NDIS access checklist at https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/am-I-Eligible for additional details on eligibility.
Even if you don’t already get disability services, you can still be eligible for the NDIS. In order to submit an access request form, you must speak with the NDIS directly. No referral is required of you. Phone 1800 800 110 or visit www.ndis.gov.au.
How do I access the NDIS?
If you think you might be eligible and want to apply:
- make a verbal application by calling us on 1800 800 110
- complete an Access Request Form and return it to us
The Access Request Form is the form you complete to apply for the NDIS. You may also need to give some supporting information when you submit your access request.
What is an NDIS Plan?
An NDIS plan essentially defines your objectives, aspirations, and necessary assistance (including any funding you might receive). The first plan you create is the beginning of a lifelong partnership with the NDIS. Your plan will adjust as your life does. Each person participating in the NDIS has a specific plan.
